Our Story

Someone once said, "Alone you can go fast, but together you can go far."  This statement perfectly applies to the creation of “Heal India” as it was born out of a collective desire to help those that are less privileged and under-served.

In 2010, Dr. Lakshmi Pal (current Heal India President) while working in a public healthcare facility in a densely populated, poverty stricken neighborhood in West Delhi, realized that it was very difficult for the locals (often laborers) to gain any kind of access to adequate and appropriate medical services in this neighborhood given the long and arduous administrative procedures involved. She noticed that the locals spent their entire days at these centers waiting in mile long lines and going through various procedures for completing case papers, etc., often at the expense of foregoing their daily wages at their jobs.

She wondered if healthcare services could be brought closer to these beneficiaries, either to their doorsteps or respective villages in a consistent manner. She imagined that this would not only save time, money and resources, but would also make the medical services accessible to this needy section of society in an appropriate way.

Dr. Pal discussed her idea with her esteemed colleagues from various medical backgrounds. Then she shared it with members of “One Kismet India” (an NGO working in the microfinance sector in India, an organization which she is also a member of). After many such meetings and deliberations, the governing body of One Kismet India responded to this call for change. Collectively, the organization resolved to explore a model for making health care accessible to those who needed it most, and as such, the “Heal India Health Camps” and “Heal India Mobile Health Center” Project initiatives were born.
